DialogCONNECTION was founded in 2008 by our Director and Lead Conversational Experience Architect, Dr. Maria Aretoulaki. Maria has been designing conversational spontaneous Speech IVRs and Voice User Interfaces (VUIs) since 1996, long before Voice Assistants or even telephone self-service were mainstream.
Maria has a Post-Doc in VUI / Conversation Design and Dialogue management, a PhD in NLP & ML, an MSc in Machine Translation & a B.A. Hons in English & Linguistics. With 14 years in Academia and 25 years in Industry, she is an expert in designing for voice and chat, factoring in both the disfluencies & irregularities of natural language and the limitations of ASR and NLU technologies.
